Do you like adventures sports ? Then definitely it will be an enchanting experience
for you when you are here right at Tikarpada. This site of one of the most fabulous
vistas of river and forest, here you will find Satkosia
Gorge where the great Mahanadi River crashes
with monumental force . And here is an ideal place for white water rafting and other
adventure sports.
It is about 60 kilometers from the district headquarter and about 200 kilometers
from Bhubaneswar. Regular bus services are available from Angul to Tikarapada, via
Badakera and Jaganathpur. Besides one can take a taxi service from Angul to Tikarapada,
via village Ogi, Tainsi, and Jaganathpur and probably this is a comfortable route.
This is probably the most important wildlife tourist attraction of the district.
This place is famous for the Gharial Crocodile Sanctuary, which is situated on the
bank of River Mahanadi. Wildlife lovers can have a chance to watch Tiger, leopard,
elephant, gaur, sambar, spotted deer, mouse deer, nilagai, four-horned antelope
and sloth bear. Wild dogs used to be sighted often. Many resident birds frequent
this place. Reptiles like the gharial, mugger crocodile, fresh water turtle and
poisonous and non-poisonous snakes can also be sighted. Besides, this is also very
much popular among the tourists as a trekking hotspot. Tikarapada is also famous
for the Satakoshia George of river Mahanadi around lush green forest.

Located at a distance of 37 kms from Phulbani
, you will come across the little hamlet of Padmatala sanctuary. It is famous for
the presence of a pond , which is used by the
wild animals of the area as a watering hole. During most evenings one can spot an
amazing variety of wildlife at this pond.
It offers visitors a perfect opportunity to see elephants, tigers, panthers, sambars
from the strategically placed watch towers .One of Orissa's smaller sanctuary, this
Ushakothi sanctuary is situated t a distance of 45 kms from Sambalpur.
About 158 kms drive from Phulbani . In the thick
tropical forests of Belghar lies Belghar sanctuary
. The dense vegetation of the area is a host to a variety of flora and fauna. Wild
elephants roamed in this area, which is inhabited mainly by tribals.
The picturesque Ambapani hills present a panoramic view of nature. Located about
77 kms from district headquarters of Bhawanipatna
and 45 kms from Nobarangpur , Ambapani is famous
for the deity of Budharaja installed in a small
temple at the foot of a hill. In this range of hill ,a frolicking valley called
Haladigundi exhibits some peculiar features due to the reflected rays of the sun.
The whole area abounds in spotted Deer, Sambar and Black Panthers which can be seen
at the Behera reservoir. At a distance of 5 kms away
, you will came across the pre-historic cave paintings at Gudahandi
.
Karlapatis famous for its enchanting wildlifes. Here several wild creatures like
Tigers, Leopards gaur and cheeta are dwelling in these forest tracts. It is about35 kms from the district headquarters of Kalahandi Bhawanipatna
. Move on Bhawanipatna-Thuamula-Rampur road and you will come across
Karlapat sancturay.
Near Ganjam, has a large concentration of elephants and other wildlife. Blackbucks
are copiously found in this region. This sanctuary located in the Lakhari valley
called Lakhari sanctuary.
